Dormition

The Church year begins with the Nativity of the Mother of God, and ends with Her Dormition. The Gospel story is over, but the history of the Church continues: today at our Dormition parish in Banate (Mindanao) is the patronal feast. Probably, as well as at all others – for today is the main holiday of the most Holy Theotokos

Repair works in Makalangot

Despite the quarantine, repair works are ongoing in the church of St. Seraphim of Sarov in Makalangot (Mindanao).
During a series of earthquakes last year, this temple was the closest to the epicenters and was one of the most affected. It was decided to strengthen the load-bearing beams with an external reinforcement belt. The work on “gilding” the dome of the temple is also being extended.
On August 24, hieromonk Korniliy (Molev), Secretary of the Philippines-Vietnamese diocese, visited the church of St. Seraphim of Sarov, inspecting the repair work.

Russian Church helps to Filipinos in need

On August 19, with the support of the Synodal Department for Social service of the Russian Orthodox Church, the parish of st. Matrona of Moscow in Davao organized another round of humanitarian aid in barangay 76A “Bukana”.
First of all, the elderly and pregnant women who do not have support received food packages. In total, 100 food packages were distributed.
Before the action, the Kagawad of the barangay presented the audience the Russian Orthodox Church and thanked it for helping Filipinos in need. Then the Secretary of the Philippines-Vietnamese diocese hieromonk Korniliy told about the history of the Orthodoxy and pointed that Russian Church exists not only for Russians. Russian people have always been ready to help those in need, and the most precious thing they want to share is the true Apostolic Orthodox faith that leads to eternal life.

Recognize the Father in Me!..

Transfiguration of our Lord is the climax of His sermon. For the three best disciples no more doubt left Who He Is. For the others He will reveal Himself a bit later, when reviving Lazarus. Since only the chosen can see the uncreated Light, those who have faith and awe. “With the fear of God and faith draw near…”
Every year on this day, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate celebrates the Divine Liturgy in their monastery on the top of Mount Tabor in Israel. And every year, around the time of serving Holy Communion, a miraculous cloud appears all of a sudden (from a crystal clear night usual for Israel summer).

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill met with a group of seminarians from Indonesia and the Philippines

August 19, 2020, after the Divine Liturgy on the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, in the Throne hall of the Patriarchal chambers of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, his Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill met with a group of students of Moscow and St. Petersburg theological schools from Indonesia and the Philippines.

Students of religious schools prayed at the Patriarchal service in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. The group was accompanied by the Secretary of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia, hieromonk Pitirim (Dondenko).

Seminarians, with the blessing of the Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia, Metropolitan Sergius of Singapore and Southeast Asia, make pilgrimage trips to the temples and monasteries of the Russian Orthodox Church during their holidays. For the past six months, they have been staying at the church of the Holy Trinity in Ostankino, Moscow.

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill blessed the seminarians and presented them with memorable gifts.

“I bless you and wish you God’s help! We hope for you, because you will be Orthodox missionaries and, of course, the results of your work will determine how much the Orthodox faith will take root in the life of your people,” his Holiness said.
