Congratulation to Metropolitan Pavel of Manila and Hanoi on the 30th Anniversary of His Monastic Tonsure
Today, October 8, 2026—the feast day of the Venerable Sergius, Abbot of Radonezh—marks the 30th anniversary of the monastic tonsure of Metropolitan Pavel of Manila and Hanoi.
Your Eminence, dear Vladyka, your monastic path, sanctified by God’s grace, stands as an example of humility, fervent prayer, and zealous fulfillment of the vows you have taken and the precepts of the Holy Fathers, all for the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Monasticism is a special path of service to God, described by the Holy Fathers as a “second baptism.” By taking vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, the monastic reiterates and deepens the renunciation made at baptism; through repentance, he casts off the “old man” in order to be clothed in the new.
On this day, allow me to congratulate you on this significant milestone in your life and to offer my prayers that you may be granted strength of soul and body, as well as the unfailing aid of God in your archpastoral labors for the good of the Holy Church.
Many and blessed years!
