On August 28, the Feast of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Dormition Parish in the village of Banate (Davao Deanery), Philippines, celebrated its patronal feast day.
The service was led by Hieromonk Korniliy (Molev), diocesan secretary. He was assisted by Priest Joachim Gonzales, rector of the parish; Priest Stefan Bingcal, rector of the Church of the Apostle Thomas in Kinabalan; and Priest John Mahinay, a cleric of the deanery. The celebration brought together believers from across the island.
The liturgy was celebrated in Cebuano.
Following the service, a procession with the cross and the singing of prayers to the Mother of God took place.
Hieromonk Korniliy addressed the faithful with a sermon in which he spoke about the feast and the earthly life of the Most Holy Theotokos.
Then, according to tradition, a communal meal was held.
