Orthodox camp: results

From May 25 to 31, the annual Orthodox camp for youth from all over the island of Mindanao was held in Lake Cebu, Philippines.

Over the course of the week, young men and women deepened their knowledge of the Orthodox faith, interacted with clergy, and participated in educational games and engaging activities.

On May 25, participants attended a prayer service to mark the camp’s opening. Priest Dimitri Cahilig served the service before the trip at the Parish of the Resurrection of Christ in General Santos, and Priest Kirill Beñalon served the service in Lake Sebu. In the evening, a concert was held where the youth showed their talents.

On the second day of the camp, after a joint prayer, Priest Dimitri Cahilig gave a lecture on “Orthodox Youth and Society.” That same day, they visited the Seven Waterfalls Park in Lake Sebu. The educational program continued in the evening.

On the third day of the camp, a scenic hike was organized, followed by a series of lectures and other group activities. Participants exchanged views on the prospects for developing missions among young people in the Philippines.

The next day, a fishing competition was held on Lake Sebu.

Following the educational program with Father Dimitri Cahilig, the children participated in short skits based on biblical events.

On the fifth day of the camp, Hieromonk John (Gondayao) gave a lecture on “Sin and Repentance” and answered questions from the audience. This was followed by an interactive team game exploring the events of Holy Scripture.

On the penultimate day, on the eve of Pentecost, the youth prepared to participate in the festive service.

On May 31, the Feast of the Holy Trinity (Pentecost), Priest Roman Buniel, Dean of the General Santos Deanery, co-served by Priests Dimitri Cahilig and Kirill Beñalon, celebrating the Divine Liturgy and Great Vespers of Pentecost, with the reading of kneeling prayers. The previous evening, Father Roman had served the All-Night Vigil.

The children assisted during the services as altar servers, readers, and chanters.

Following a shared meal on Sunday, a ceremony was held to present certificates for participation in the camp. The program concluded with words of encouragement from the clergy and the head of the Lake Sebu Parish Council.
